Faculty at University of Illinois Take Up Ombuds Resolution

Later today, the Senate of the UI Urbana-Champaign Campus will vote on a "Resolution on the Need for Additional Resources for Advocacy and Support for Those Harmed by Sexual Assault and Harassment." Among other things, the resolution seeks the "the appointment of a University-wide Ombudsperson as an additional resource for cases of harassment and assault."

The Champaign News-Gazette provide this detail about the resolution:
Professor Terri Barnes, one of the resolution's co-sponsors, said UI administrators are responding to the difficulties that every university in the country is facing because of sexual misconduct — by hiring more investigators and creating systemwide and campus committees to recommend improvements in policies and procedures for dealing with complaints, among other steps.
