Southern Illinois University Carbondale to Restore Faculty Ombuds Program
SUIC has opened a search for a Ombudsperson for faculty and instructors, marking the potential resumption of a service that was discontinued a decade ago. SUIC had a university-wide Ombuds program for decades, but that was shut down in 2012 at about the same time the university defended student lawsuit related to case handled by the Ombuds, Lynn Connley. The campus had no Ombuds for the next five years. In 2017, the university created a Student Ombuds office (Renada Greer is the current Student Ombudsperson), but there is no Ombuds for faculty or staff.
The new job is a nine-month, half administrative and half faculty assignment, and reports to the Provost. The position is open only to faculty members and with a preference for Full Professor. No salary indicated. The application deadline is November 9, 2021. (SUIC Jobs.)
