Nearly four years after it started a search, Laura Navarrete has been named the first Ombudsperson for United Nations affiliated university in Costa Rica. In addition to informally resolving conflicts, the UPeace Ombuds also manages the formal complaint process, duties that are not in line with most university Ombuds or other UN Ombuds programs.
It appears that Navarrete is serving as the Ombuds as an external contractor. According to her bio, she is a Senior Manager with EY Law (a subsidiary of Ernst & Young Global Limited). She is a labor lawyer and has also worked in Washington DC. She graduated from the University of Costa Rica, earned a law degree from the Latin American University of Science and Technology and a Master's from the University of Salamanca, Spain.
