Job Posting: University of Mississippi Medical Center
UMMC, the health sciences campus of the University of Mississippi (Ole Miss) in Jackson, is seeking its first Ombudsperson. (A search in January 2020 was scuttled by the COVID outbreak.) The full-time position will establish an office following IOA standards and report administratively to the Associate Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs. UMMC comprises seven health science schools (Medicine, Dentistry, Nursing, Health Related Professions, Graduate Studies in the Health Sciences, Population Health, and Pharmacy) four teaching hospitals, and many other clinics and research facilities. It is not clear from the posting which constituents will have access to the new Ombuds program, but UMMC enrolls 3,500 students and trainees, and counts over 10,000 employees. UMMC is largely autonomous from Ole Miss, which has had its own Ombuds, Paul Caffera, since 2015.
Does this Mississippi ombuds job also come with thumb screws, like they tried to apply to Paul?
ReplyDeleteWith so much negativity in the world, ombuds are an incredible resource that can bring optimism and light in times of darkness. Perhaps those with cynical, passive aggressive critiques that are not based on any evidence whatsoever should keep their comments to themselves. It is unprofessional and unbecoming of the author and the profession. It is a good sign that IOA’s code of ethics and standards of practice are mentioned first, even before the description of the role. I am hopeful that the UMMC leadership will support that fully.
