The large public university in Central Illinois has reopened its search for a a full-time Ombudsperson. It appears that this will be a new position for ISU, which has had a Ombudsperson Council comprised of three collateral duty Ombuds since about 2010. It is not clear whether the new Ombuds will replace or supplement the Council's work. The new Ombuds will serve nearly 30,000 faculty, staff, and students on the urban campus and is expected to start July 1, 2024.
The qualifications required are unchanged from the prior search just five months ago, but the pay range has been cut significantly. Applicants must have a Bachelor’s degree and at least five years of related experience. A graduate degree, seven years of professional Ombuds experience, and higher ed experience are preferred. The position is projected to pay $85,000 to $98,000 per year. (Previously, the salary range was $100,000 to $115,000 annually.) Applications will be reviewed starting May 6, 2024. (ISU Jobs.)
Absolutely! When one cannot attract candidates for a position, slash the pay. Likewise, if demand for one's products decreases, increase the price to attract more customers. Basic economics.
The ISU website says Normal, IL, is a "short drive" from Chicago and St. Louis. Both are 2 1/2 hours away. :-( But the cost of living is 18% lower than the national average

ReplyDeleteLol. If they cut the pay to $65,000 maybe they can attract even more candidates.
