Ombuds to Tackle Bullying at State Department
The Ombuds for the U.S. Department of State, Jeanne Juliao, has received funding to expand her office to address bullying for the first time. When the Office of the Ombuds was established in 2014, it was intended to include a Workplace Conflict Prevention and Resolution Center (wCPRc). But the wCPRc has never been funded until this year. Juliao said, “Fully staffing the wCPRc is a vital part of the department’s strategic effort to address conflicts rooted in failed communications, bullying, and incivility.” Once staffed, the wCPRc will function within the Office of the Ombuds as an independent and impartial resource for department personnel dealing with non-EEO-related workplace conflicts, seeking to address behaviors like bullying through informal means.
