The Thomas Jefferson National Accelerator Facility, the DOE lab in Newport News, Virginia, has launched an Ombuds program, nearly a year after issuing a request for proposals seeking an external provider. The new program will be provided by Bultman Wilson Consulting, a Maryland-based human resources consulting firm led by Wiltina Wilson. The new Ombuds program will provide IOA-compliant services to about 700 lab employees and other scientific users for an initial initial contract term of five years.
Wilson founded Bultman Wilson Consulting in 2024 after serving for a decade as Chief Human Resources Officer for the Council for a Strong America. Earlier in her career, she was Chief of Staff for the Maryland General Assembly. Wilson earned Bachelor's degrees from University of Maryland Eastern Shore and Salisbury University holds an MSW from Morgan State University. (Jefferson Lab Ombuds; LinkedIn.)
Glad to see Jefferson Lab offer an Ombuds to members of this community. Virginia Tech is one of the entities that will helping manage and operate Jefferson Lab but because members of that community are not Virginia Tech employees our office scope does not extend to them. Nonetheless, having worked at another DOE facility in years past (Sandia National Labs), I'm glad to see Ombuds services be a resource to members of the lab. Nothing gets in the way of mission success like conflict and so kudos to Jefferson Lab for launching an Ombuds program.
Wiltina - congratulations on setting up an IOA-compliant OO resource at Jefferson Lab. Wishing you all the best!
