Job Posting: Virginia Tech

Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University, the public research university in Blacksburg, will expand its Ombuds Office with the hiring of its first Associate Ombuds. The position will report to the Director & University Ombuds, Reese Ramos, and provide services to all campus stakeholders, including faculty, staff, and students. This is not a remote position, but is eligible for a telework/hybrid schedule.

Applicants must have a Bachelor's degree with experience and training, or a relevant Master's degree. Ombuds experience and CO-OP designation are preferred. The position pays $75,000 to $80,000 and applications will be reviewed starting August 11, 2024. (VT Posting.)

It is not evident on the position description and so I do want to confirm that this office has been designed & practices to IOA Standards and best practices, including, for purposes of confidentiality NOT being an office of notice for Title IX purposes, allegations that may be perceived to be harassment/discrimination, and/or incidents subject to reporting under the Clery Act. I know this has been a topic on some other recent job postings but the Virginia Tech University Ombuds Office is as model of an Ombuds Office as it gets thanks to the methodical work done by Tech in researching and creating this office before my arrival and a recent office program review I requested that Chuck Howard conduct. Not worrying about the limitations on the role truly allows us to serve the community better. I look forward to interested colleagues in applying and the successful candidate joining me in the spirit of Ut Prosim (That I May Serve).
