UCSD, the large public research university in La Jolla, is seeking a full-time Associate Ombudsperson (Ombudsperson 3) for a one-year appointment. The office serves faculty, staff, students (about 40,000), and members of the UCSD health system. The position is part of an established office led by Director/Campus Ombudsperson John Armijo, with Associate Ombuds Nicholas Raichart and Ombuds Sue Presley. The role includes managing cases of moderate complexity, conducting intake and assessment, and leading outreach and training.
Applicants must have a Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent experience), knowledge of conflict resolution and mediation principles, and strong communication, problem-solving, and analytical skills. Preferred qualifications include an advanced degree, IOA training, and at least one year of Ombuds experience. The posted salary range is $79,200–$143,400 annually (with a hiring range of approximately $92,500–$120,000). Applications are due March 27, 2026. (UCSD Posting.)
Update 3/24/26: Reliable sources say that John Armijo retired from UCSD at the end of 2025 and Nick Raichart is serving as Interim Campus Ombuds. The search is for someone to fill in for a year while the campus works out the office structure.
