New Ombuds and Changes at UC San Diego

The Office of the Ombuds at UCSD has made a few changes. John Armijo, who joined the office last year has been appointed the Interim Director and Ombudsperson. Nick Raichart was hired as the Associate Ombudsperson in April 2014. Judy Bruner, the former Director became the Chief Campus Ethics and Compliance Officer, and will oversee of the Ombuds Office and Audit and Management Advisory Services.

Most recently, Raichart was the Director of Student Grievance Resolution at Bridgepoint Education. Previously, he was a mediator in the Los Angeles Superior Court system and assisted international graduate students while at the Consulate General for the State of Kuwait. He received his Juris Doctorate and Masters of Dispute Resolution from Pepperdine University.  (UCSD Ombuds, Strategic Update.)

  1. This sounds like a bit of a demotion for the UCSD Ombuds. They previously reported to the Chancellor. Now, they report to someone else. Granted, the "someone else" is the former Ombuds, but that's still one step removed from the chief executive. This doesn't set a good example.
