The public land-grant, research university in Corvallis seeks applications for its next University Ombuds. The search was prompted by the recent departure of Sue Theiss, OSU's founding Ombuds. Breanne Taylor, is currently serving as the Interim University Ombuds, assisted by a new Associate Ombuds, Robynn M. Pease. The full-time position leads an office that provides Ombuds services to over 40,000 faculty, staff, students, and other stakeholders. OSU hopes to confirm the appointment by August 1, 2023.
Applicants must have a Bachelor's degree and at least three years of professional experience. An advanced degree, mediation training, and high ed experience are preferred. Applications should be submitted by May 30, 2023. No salary range indicated. (OSU Posting.)
The description of this position seemed like it was tailored for a particular person, perhaps internally. The dry response I received to my inquiry stated that the university would consider all applicants. I suspiciously yet very thoroughly completed a highly demanding application that required more time than the typical resume and a cover letter. It included a request for additional questions and statements that responding to them was highly time-consuming. Despite many years of diverse and rich experience as a scholar-practitioner of conflict and mediation, and thoughtful responses, I wasn't even invited for an interview.
This whole thing seems sus. Breanne moved to another position at OSU a couple months ago and now it's only one newly-hired ombuds holding down the fort.
