IOA Forms Roundtable for Ombuds Leaders

The International Ombuds Association has launched a group for Ombuds leaders. Organized by Shannon Lynn Burton, the Ombuds Administrator Roundtable is "a casual, peer-led bi-monthly space for ombuds leaders who supervise staff and lead ombuds programs." Interested Ombuds should submit a short interest form.

Here is the full description from IOA:
Leadership in the ombuds world is meaningful, complex, and often isolating — especially for those of us supervising staff, managing internal dynamics, and leading our offices through institutional change.
That’s why I’m launching the Ombuds Administrator Roundtable — a casual, peer-led bi-monthly space for ombuds leaders who supervise staff and lead ombuds programs.
This isn’t a training. There’s no PowerPoint, no facilitator, and no deliverables. It’s an informal, confidential space to talk shop, reflect on our work, and support one another as leaders.
We’ll meet once every other month for 90 minutes over Zoom. Each session will offer:
  • A chance to check in and connect
  • A rotating discussion topic like supervision, staff evaluation, team dynamics, hiring, role clarity, or navigating institutional politics
  • A peer consultation space for those who want to share a challenge as a supervisor or ask for feedback
  • An opportunity to exchange tools and insights — sample evaluations, onboarding plans, job descriptions, strategic planning docs, and more
We’ll let the group evolve organically, but our focus will remain steady: supporting each other as ombuds leaders in spaces where we supervise and grow teams aligned with the Standards of Practice.
This group is for:
  • Ombuds who supervise staff or lead a team
  • Those who want space to reflect out loud, learn with others, and build community
  • Colleagues who believe informal peer support is essential to sustainable leadership
If that sounds like you, I’d love for you to join us! Just fill out this short interest form and I’ll be in touch soon with meeting dates and next steps. If you have questions, please reach out: sburton@msu.edu.
