Cheryl Henshaw has been appointed the Ombudsperson for Algoma University. Henshaw, who previously served as the Ombuds for the University of Windsor, will serve a four-month term as AU evaluates the benefits of an Ombuds program. "We want to extend a warm welcome to Cheryl as she begins this important pilot project," says Dr. Richard Myers, President of Algoma University. "We look forward to having her on campus, and appreciate the experience she brings to this position."
Henshaw established the Ombuds Office at the University of Windsor in 2001 and served in that role for eight years. In June 2009, a budget deficit forced Windsor to close its Ombuds office in favor of an Office of Human Rights and Equity. Henshaw reportedly declined an offer to transition into a new position. Prior to 2001, Henshaw was a lawyer in private practice for 15 years. She has extensive experience in conflict/alternative dispute resolution, investigation, and contract and policy interpretation in an academic setting. (Algoma News; Sault Star.)
