The International Ombudsman Association has announced a new professional development series for Organizational Ombudsman practitioners that will begin at its July training near Orlando, FL. The multi-topical series is entitled “Organizational Ombudsman Knowledge and Skills Series” and will focus on strengthening practitioners’ understanding of various theoretical concepts and practical techniques that are utilized to effectively perform the role of an Organizational Ombudsman in adherence to IOA Standards of Practice and Code of Ethics. The series is intended for active and experienced Organizational Ombudsman practitioners.
The first installment of the series, “Working with Visitors and Respondents,” was piloted at the 2011 Fall IOA training in Baltimore, MD and is being offered again due to strong interest. The 2½ day course begins on July 17 and will be taught by Donna J. Louden, Associate Director, University of Colorado at Boulder; Sean A. Banks, Director & Company Ombuds, Shell Oil Co.; and Belinda K. Newman, University Ombuds, University of North Texas. Future Installments may include “Working with Leadership” and “Upward Feedback and Systemic Change.” Attendees must have completed Ombudsman 101/Foundations of Organizational Ombudsman Practice and have at least one year of experience as a practicing Organizational Ombuds.
