Job Posting: University of Oregon

Fulfilling a promise by President Michael Gottfredson earlier this year, OU has opened a search for its first University Ombudsperson. The position will set up a program for faculty, staff, and administrators -- a population of about 27,000.

Preferred qualifications for applicants include: a JD or LLM degree; relevant higher education experience; management, supervision, and organizational development experience; a mediation certificate; program; and IOA membership. The one-year position pays $80,000-100,000. Application review starts October 18, 2013. (OU Jobs.)

Organizational Ombuds

Organizational Ombuds serve as a confidential, independent, neutral and informal dispute resolution resource for a specific entity. They are accessible to a defined population and can advocate for fairness. These unique characteristics distinguish Organizational Ombuds from Classical Ombuds, mediators, arbitrators, and other alternative dispute resolution professionals. The term "Ombuds" is shorthand for "Ombudsman," "Ombudsperson" and "Ombuds Officer," which also are used widely.
