Margarita Gómez Ordoñez, who became the Ombudsperson for Universidad de los Andes just six months ago, recently explained the "what, who, and how" of her role. Gómez Ordoñez explained that her primary task is to respond to queries from all members of the university community--students, faculty and staff--about academic, administrative or disciplinary concerns.
Gómez Ordoñez said one of the underlying reasons for the creation of an Ombuds program was to improve the climate of the university by creating a safe place for dialogue. In just the first few weeks of operation, she has handled about 40 student cases. (Uniades Noticias.)
