Organizational Ombuds

Organizational Ombuds serve as a confidential, independent, neutral and informal dispute resolution resource for a specific entity. They are accessible to a defined population and can advocate for fairness. These unique characteristics distinguish Organizational Ombuds from Classical Ombuds, mediators, arbitrators, and other alternative dispute resolution professionals. The term "Ombuds" is shorthand for "Ombudsman," "Ombudsperson" and "Ombuds Officer," which also are used widely.

Disclaimer: This is Not the IOA Blog

Editorial comments and opinions are solely mine and do not reflect any endorsement by the International Ombudsman Association or any other entity with which I am or have been affiliated.

I currently serve on the Board of Directors of the International Ombudsman Association. This may cause some confusion about the relationship of this blog to IOA. So let me make it clear that the Ombuds Blog is solely mine and does not necessarily reflect the official position of IOA. I will not post items to the blog that are not already available to the public; information that is restricted to IOA members or the board will not be published here.

Inclusion or exclusion of any matters should not imply an endorsement or disapproval by IOA. Moreover, during my tenure as board member, I have a fiduciary duty to not take a position against IOA. On the other hand, comments will still be permitted (although personal attacks and commercial comments will not). If anyone has questions, please contact me at any time.
