Cal Caucus Seeks Nominations for Ombuds Award

The California Caucus of College and University Ombuds is soliciting nominations for awards to be given during its meeting at Asilomar in Pacific Grove on November 17–20, 2013. Each year, CCCUO publicly acknowledges individuals who have distinguished themselves through outstanding and noteworthy contributions to the Ombuds field, within Cal Caucus and beyond.

Two awards are considered annually:

The Service Excellence Award recognizes significant leadership contributions to CCCUO. Cal Caucus is unique in that it is participant driven, sustained and maintained wholly through volunteer work effort. This Award recognizes individuals who excel in this service.
The Pete Small Award distinguishes a colleague as “Ombudsperson of the Year” for work within Cal Caucus and beyond that is recognized as unique and substantive in advancing the Ombuds field.

Nominations must be received by November 1.

Organizational Ombuds

Organizational Ombuds serve as a confidential, independent, neutral and informal dispute resolution resource for a specific entity. They are accessible to a defined population and can advocate for fairness. These unique characteristics distinguish Organizational Ombuds from Classical Ombuds, mediators, arbitrators, and other alternative dispute resolution professionals. The term "Ombuds" is shorthand for "Ombudsman," "Ombudsperson" and "Ombuds Officer," which also are used widely.
