URI has named two emeriti professors, Gerry Tyler and Al Killilea, to serve as Co-Ombuds for students and other members of the University community. The Ombud Office has been in existence since 1971 and serves a total population of about 18,000. The office moved to a new location in April. The appointments became effective February 20, 2014.
Tyler and Killilea were both Professors of Political Science. Tyler's experience at URI started in 1974 and also included service as an academic administrator. She earned her PhD from Yale University. Killilea arrived at URI in 1969 and his main research interests are in the field of political theory. He has co-edited a book entitled Ethical Dilemmas in Public Administration. He is a graduate of the University of Notre Dame. (URI Ombud Office; Tyler Bio; Killilea Bio.)
