Job Posting: Rochester University

The private, nonsectarian, research university in New York is hiring a "University Intercessor and ADA/504 Coordinator." The first position is essentially that of an Ombuds. "The University Intercessor is responsible for neutral and impartial dispute resolution, providing confidential and informal assistance to all constituents of the University community...with respect to issues of perceived unfair or improper treatment or bias." The Intercessor has been a Rochester resource for four decades.

Applicants must have a master’s degree with five years of experience in a University or Human Resources or conflict resolution environment; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Experience with ADA and disabilities law is preferred. No salary or deadline indicated. (Rochester Jobs via Indeed; Intercessor.)

  1. Wow... I'm so conflicted about this posting. I guess it's not an 'ombuds' wearing two hats, but the label should not be relevant. How can the Intercessor really enforce disability rights? Also, why is Rochester resisting the urge to update the title? Kudos to them for being a forerunner of the OO model, but why not use the widespread title?
