On January 30, 2020, the mayor of Poland's ninth-largest city, Krzysztof Żuk, appointed Philip Unilowski at the city's first Ombudsman for students. Żuk was inspired by the work of student Ombuds at Western Universities. Unilowski's tasks will include "facilitating communication between pupils, local authorities and teachers, clarifying and promoting the rights of pupils, providing assistance to pupils in the event of a violation of these rights and representing the interests of children and young people before the authorities."
Unilowski has served as chair of the Municipal Youth Council and as a student affairs officer at the Lublin City Council. He is currently a student at John Paul II Catholic University. (TheMayor.eu.)
