Boise State Seeking Faculty to Join Ombuds Office

The public university in Idaho is taking applications from faculty member of any rank to join the Faculty Ombuds. A team of three Ombuds provides informal problem solving and conflict management for all faculty members within the Boise State community.

Currently, the office is comprised of Manda Hicks, an Associate Professor of Communication and Media, Phil Kelly a Professor in the Department of Curriculum, Instruction, and Foundational studies, and Jonathan Krutz, a lecturer in Marketing. There is no fixed term for the Ombuds at Boise. (Boise Ombuds Announcement.)

Organizational Ombuds serve as a confidential, independent, neutral and informal dispute resolution resource for a specific entity. They are accessible to a defined population and can advocate for fairness. These unique characteristics distinguish Organizational Ombuds from Classical Ombuds, mediators, arbitrators, and other alternative dispute resolution professionals. The term "Ombuds" is shorthand for "Ombudsman," "Ombudsperson" and "Ombuds Officer," which also are used widely.
