On Friday, November 9th, 2012, the Arizona Ombuds met at a luncheon hosted by the Maricopa County Community College District in Tempe. The district's Ombudsman, Teresa Toney, an associate member of IOA, provided an overview of the Office of Public Stewardship, where the Ombuds function is located. Participants were presented with an on-line demonstration of the organization's 24/7 anonymous report hotline.
The discussion also focused on forming key partnerships in order to build support, where the District's General Counsel, Lee Combs and Donna Winston, Policy Chair from Maricopa's Professional Staff Association, an employee organization comprised of administrative support staff, addressed the audience on their experiences in working with the Ombuds.
Arizona Ombuds informally meet on a quarterly basis to network and share information about their respective roles, offices, and organizations as well as discuss particular topics of interest, which are pre-determined and presented on an agenda. The Ombuds voluntarily take turns hosting the meeting at their places of business.
