The European Network for Ombudsman in Higher Education will hold its ninth annual conference in Madrid, Spain on June 27-29, 2011 at the Universidad Europea de Madrid. ENOHE coordinator Josef Leidenfrost points out that Spain was the first European country to appoint University Ombudsmen by law, under “Ley Orgánica 6/2001” and has become a model also for Ombuds in higher education.
Conference participants are expected from Europe, Australia, Canada, Mexico, the United States, and elsewhere. The meeting will be held in English and Spanish and the focus will be the growing importance of Ombuds in times of crises and economic difficulties within the further development of the European Higher Education Area. There will be four thematic slots on the impacts of crises on institutions, students and the immediate affects of crises, the ombudsmen’s roles in crises and how higher education decision makers meet crises.
The conference will include half a day pre-conference workshops (June 27 morning) and four half-day plenary sessions / roundtables (June 27 afternoon, June 28 full day and June 29 morning). Universidad Europea de Madrid and Conferencia Estatal de Defensores Universitarios (National Conference of Ombudspersons) will co-host the event. For further information please contact the ombudsman of Universidad Europea, Elia Cambon Crespo (elia [dot] cambon [at-sign] uem [dot] es) or Josef Leidenfrost (josef [dot] leidenfrost [at-sign] bmwf [dot] gv [dot] at).
