University of the Andes Appoints First Ombuds

The Board of Universidad de los Andes has appointed Margarita Gómez Ordoñez to serve as its first Ombudsperson for two years, effective January 14, 2013. The Ombuds will serve about 17,000 students and other stakeholders at the nonsectarian private university in Bogotá, Colombia.  According to an announcement from the University, the Ombuds will be a neutral resource that will complement existing university programs, and will have the power to recommend the review or creation of new policies.

Gómez Ordoñez has worked at the University for two decades and is currently an Associate Professor and Director of the undergraduate law program. She has held a variety of other academic and administrative positions, including an eight year stint as Secretary General of the University. Gómez Ordoñez is a three-time graduate of the University of the Andes, after undergraduate work, she earned her law degree there, and is now completing a Masters of Private Law. (Uniandes News.)
