University of Michigan Names First Staff Ombuds

U-M has selected Jacqueline Bowman to open and lead its new Office of the Staff Ombuds starting in early 2019.  Bowman will serve non-academic employees on the Ann Arbor campus and from Michigan Medicine, and report to the university's Executive VP and CFO.  Bowman has worked at the University of Michigan since 2008; she is currently the Lead Counselor and Program Specialist in the Center for the Education of Women.

Bowman said she embraces the mission of assisting staff in resolving issues and helping to create a positive and equitable workplace. “My entire professional career is anchored by a commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion. As someone with deep and enduring ties to this campus, it is an honor to support the staff and the mission to ensure an equitable community.” According to the U-M announcement, Bowman established a new Ombuds office at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and worked as a corporate Ombudsperson for a Fortune 500 company. She earned her PhD in educational psychology from U-M. (U-M Record.)
