European Ombuds and Mediators to Gather in Geneva

The International Committee of the Red Cross will host a two-day meeting of European Ombuds and medatiors at the Humanitarium Conference Center in Geneva on October 16 and 17.

The meeting will feature: an opening address by Reto Meister, ICRC Ombudsman; a presentation on "Organizational cultures and corresponding conflict models" by Tina Monberg, Copenhage lawyer, mediator and psychotherapist; remarks by Balthasar Staehelin, ICRC Deputy Director General; a panel discussion on "Mindfulness" with Francisco Espejo, MD, Ombudsman of the World Food Program in Rome, Mariam Yanoussi, UNHCR Associate Ombuds Office in Geneva, and Catherine Michel-Baussay, Assistant to the Ombudsperson for WHO in Geneva. Organizational Ombuds

Organizational Ombuds serve as a confidential, independent, neutral and informal dispute resolution resource for a specific entity. They are accessible to a defined population and can advocate for fairness. These unique characteristics distinguish Organizational Ombuds from Classical Ombuds, mediators, arbitrators, and other alternative dispute resolution professionals. The term "Ombuds" is shorthand for "Ombudsman," "Ombudsperson" and "Ombuds Officer," which also are used widely.
