The Office of the Ombudsman at the State Department is hiring a Program Management Specialist. The incumbent will work as an Ombuds, providing, "subject matter expertise in conflict resolution, utilizing mediation, facilitation, conflict coaching and other Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) techniques, as appropriate."Some travel is required and there is an opportunity to telecommute. The position is open only to family members of a federal employee working or who has worked overseas or internal applicants.
Applicants must have relevant experience and/or an advanced degree. The GS-11 position pays $68,036-$88,450 per year. Applications are due March 9, 2018. (Federal Government Jobs.)

Ah, the dreaded "insider candidate" pro forma posting
ReplyDeleteOf all places in the government you’d hope would be above board, it would be the Ombuds office. Sadly it appears the State Department’s ombudsman has failed. Integrity is everything, and if you can’t trust an Ombuds to honor even the basics of merit systems principles, then their role to serve the entire system as a fair place to get help is fruitless. Shameful. What an embarrassment. Everyone should get a fair opportunity to compete for taxpayer funded positions. It is now a conflict of interest for any State Ombudsman to work with employees and applicants about hiring issues because they’re working the system for a specific person’s benefit. How are they going to be effective in this role now? And it’s not their fault. This is a failure in leadership. This is a lesson to us all in how we operate. We have to avoid even the perception of impropriety.
