H. Nyree Gray has been selected the first Ombuds for the academic society for historical humanities research. Gray is currently the Associate Vice President / Chief Civil Rights Officer at Claremont McKenna College in California. Earlier this year. ASEC adopted a new Policy on Harassment, which called for an External Ombuds. The ethical standards for the ASEC Ombuds have not yet been published.
Gray has been the Chief Civil Rights Officer at Claremont McKenna for the past six years. Before that, she was an Associate Professor and Dean of Students and Diversity Affairs at Southwestern Law School. She has received numerous awards including Southern California Super Lawyer Rising Star, California State Bar Organizational Diversity Award, and Higher Education Excellence in Diversity. She is the co-author of Win or Go Home (2016), a guide to competitive negotiations. She graduated from UC Berkeley and earned her JD at Southwestern Law Schoo. (LinkedIn.)
