Texas A&M University–Kingsville Opens Internal Search for First Ombuds

TAMUK, the southernmost campus of the Texas A&M University System, has opened an internal search for its first Faculty Ombudsperson. The half-time position had the backing of the Faculty Senate begins in the Fall semester. The new Ombuds will report to the University President and practice to IOA standards. The position is open only to tenured TAMUK faculty and applications are due by July 2, 2024. The role will carry an administrative stipend of $400/month for the nine month appointment. Organizational Ombuds

Organizational Ombuds serve as a confidential, independent, neutral and informal dispute resolution resource for a specific entity. They are accessible to a defined population and can advocate for fairness. These unique characteristics distinguish Organizational Ombuds from Classical Ombuds, mediators, arbitrators, and other alternative dispute resolution professionals. The term "Ombuds" is shorthand for "Ombudsman," "Ombudsperson" and "Ombuds Officer," which also are used widely.
