The private liberal arts college in Ohio has re-opened a search for its next Ombuds. The full-time position (with "significant commitments on nights and weekends"!) reports to the Office of the President and serves students, faculty and staff -- a population of almost 5,000.
In addition to Ombuds services, the position will manage the Yeworkwha Belachew Center for Dialogue, which was renamed recently in honor of the College's first Ombuds.
Applicants must have bachelor’s degree. An advanced degree, Ombuds experience in higher education, and familiarity with Oberlin are all preferred. No salary or application deadline indicated. (Jobs at Oberlin.)
There are no significant changes in the posting.

Presumably, none of the usual suspects wanted to apply because too many of the numerous duties would not comply with the IOA Standards of Practice? And then there are the news stories about Oberlin in recent months. Sounds like a challenge.

ReplyDeleteYou're right. Interesting and unexpected.
DeletePerhaps an HR accident?
DeleteOne wonders whether the brief re-posting was because they had identified someone that they wanted to apply for the position. In any event, with all of the after-hours obligations and this being non-IOA compliant, what's not to love?
ReplyDeleteHah!
DeleteI may be in the minority, but I don't view Ombuds as first responders and therefore should not be available 24/7.
I don't know anyone in this profession who view Ombuds as first responders, but if that's really the case, I'm in the minority with you, Tom.
