Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University, Hyderabad (JNTU-Hyderabad) has become the first university in India to appoint an Ombudsman as required by the Ministry of Human Resource Development. Prof. B.C. Jinaga, former rector of JNTU-H, has been appointed the first Ombuds and will also be the chairman of the five-member grievance redressal committee.
The JNTU-Hyderabad Ombuds will hear complaints from students and applicants such as denial of admission, collection of donation, excess fee, and withholding certificates. JNTU-Hyderabad is one of the largest technology universities in India, with nearly 460 engineering, pharmacy, MBA and MCA colleges under it, mostly located in and around Hyderabad, the capital and largest city of the southern Indian state of Andhra Pradesh.
