The
Office of the United Nations Ombudsman and Mediation Services is accepting applications for a full-time, two-month, unpaid internship in its New York
offices. The position supports UNOMS Mediation Services; helps identify systemic issues; supports outreach and advocacy efforts; and
helps prepare data and reports.
Applicants
must be enrolled in a graduate degree program and be computer literate
in standard software applications. Work experience or knowledge of a
foreign language has not been required. The posting period for the position
ends December 5, 2016. (Global Jobs.)
We need to do a better job of funding internships. It seems unreasonable to expect anyone to work full time in NYC for any length of time for $0. It devalues our profession.
ReplyDeleteIt is amazing. Moreover, it would seem to severely limit the potential pool of applicants.
DeleteLet's do a fundraiser and donate a set of camping gears for the intern to camp out by the East River. I heard East River is nice this time of year.
ReplyDeleteThis is a general UN policy. NO internship with the UN is paid.
ReplyDeleteIf only there was some resource that could raise a systemic policy issue that has adverse impacts on people and underlying organizational goals.
DeleteLaw schools historically offer a stipend for this kind of work, and other graduate programs as well. I may be wrong but I believe the UN generally does not pay interns.
