Programs Mark Ombuds Day 2020, Now Just One Month Away

The ABA Ombuds Committee website is posting links to events commemorating the third annual Ombuds Day on October 8, 2020. Organizers (led by Ken Skodacek, ABA Dispute Resolution Section, Ombuds Day Subcommittee Chair) aim to survey the full range of Ombuds practices. Several are online and open to the public.

Ombuds Day events currently include:

• How the Citizenship and Immigration Services Ombudsman Untangles the Complexity of U.S. Immigration, October 2, 2020 – 1-2 PM ET

• Taking Ombuds/Mediation Skills to the Protest, October 7, 2020 – 1-2 PM ET
  Presenters: Roy Baroff, North Carolina State University, Faculty & Staff Ombuds; D.A. Graham, The University of Kansas, University Ombuds

• Ombuds Day – A Recognition of the Ombuds Profession & the Value of Ombuds, presented by the American Bar Association, October 8, 2020 (morning and afternoon sessions)
  Presenters: Chuck Howard, Executive Director, International Ombudsman Association, as well as a panel discussion with questions and answers with representatives from International Ombudsman Association, United States Ombudsman Association, Coalition of Federal Ombudsman, and National Association for State Long-Term Care Ombudsman.

• Handling Unreasonable Complaints as an Ombuds, presented by Salt River Project’s Consumer Affairs Ombudsman Office in collaboration with the United States Ombudsman Association, October 8, 2020 – 4-5:30 PM ET
