Job Re-Posting: South Texas College

The public community college in McAllen, Texas has reopened its search for an Ombudsperson. (It remains unclear whether this search will replace or supplement the work of Erica R. Hansen and Michelle A. Miller, who have have served in the role for the past several years. The position serves all primarily students (31,000 enrolled across six campuses) and practices to IOA standards. The anticipated start date is now February 2, 2024.

Requirements for the job have not changed. Applicants must have a Bachelor's degree and at least two years of experience in higher education or social services. The position will pay a minimum of $42,640 per year and applications are due by January 5, 2024. (STC Jobs.)

  2. So hold up. This is a full time, in-person job at $42k? No wonder they're reposting. You gotta raise the salary, and if you can't raise it to a decent amount at least make it remote. Do something to make it appealing. Eeek.

  3. Dios mío. That's about $20/hour. This past summer they raised the minimum from $13 to a whopping $15/hr. Their president makes over $300k and so you would think that if they value the work of the Ombuds, and others, employees would get quite a bit more.
