TU Wien Introduces First Ombuds

Technische Universität Wien (also known as the Vienna University of Technology), the public research university in Austria, appointed Kurt Matyas and Vasiliki-Maria Archodoulaki as its first Ombuds in October 2023. Together, they assist 27,000 students with concerns about university life. Both of the Ombuds hold other positions at UT Wien. Archodoulaki is an Associate Professor of Materials Science and Technology and has worked at TU Wien since 2007. Matyas started his doctoral studies at the university in 1982 and then worked in a variety of academic and administrative positions. Since 2015, he has also been the Vice Rector of Academic Affairs. So far their work has been entirely virtual. They hope a physical Ombudsstelle can be established for in-person meetings. (TU Wein News; TU Wien Ombuds.)
