The Council of University System Faculty for the University of Maryland will resubmit its recommendation for Ombuds offices for all faculty, staff, and students. Currently, the University System of Maryland has Ombuds programs on just three of its eleven campuses: UM College Park, UM Baltimore (including the schools of nursing and dentistry), and Frostburg State University.
The faculty group made a similar proposal in 2013, but budget constraints prevented implementation. This time, faculty are joining staff and student groups which are making similar demands.
The Ombuds from UM College Park and UM Baltimore are expected to meet with the campus provosts this summer. Then, in September the same Ombuds will be invited the Council of University System Faculty's September meeting. The Faculty Chair hopes present a joint resolution to the UM President’s Council later this year. (Report by the Council of University System Faculty to the USM Board of Regents.)
