Coast Guard Marks Ombuds Appreciation Day

The U.S. Coast Guard acknowledged the contributions of volunteer Ombudsmen on March 26, 2012. Amanda Satter, Ombuds for the Maritime Safety And Security Team in San Diego, CA was selected as the recipient of the 2011 Wanda Allen-Yearout Ombudsman of the Year Award, which will be presented by the USCG Commandant on March 27, 2012. 

A announcement from the Coast Guard summarized Satter's work: 
Mrs. Satter has been an integral link between the command cadre, the crew and families. Her devotion to the Ombudsman Program has resulted in increased unit readiness and an enhanced quality of life for all members of the unit. Mrs. Satter was instrumental in coordinating the units first yellow ribbon pre-deployment event. She worked tirelessly welcoming 45 new reservists and their family members, updated contact rosters and acquainted families with community information. Mrs. Satters superb relationship and rapport with the local work-life staff and Navys Fleet and Family Support Center has increased the unit families knowledge of available resources and programs. Mrs. Satters enthusiasm and approachable demeanor strengthened the sense of community among unit members, and she continually provided unit updates via the commanding officer to the families. Most importantly, families routinely recognized and praised Mrs. Satters incredible hard work and dedication in increasing unit cohesiveness and family readiness.
