The private, liberal arts college in Claremont, CA is reportedly close to finishing a search for its first Ombudsperson. According to the student newspaper, two candidates for the position were scheduled to visit the campus this week, but one withdrew due to reservations about the college's response to dining hall employees' effort to unionize.
Neither of the candidates have been identified and this was not the first set back for the search process. “There have been two searches over the past several years that failed,” one member of the search committee said. “The last search, especially, failed because it was unclear among faculty and staff exactly what the role of the ombudsperson was.” Pomona's first Ombuds is expected to start working this fall.
