Job Posting: U.S. Department of Energy

The federal agency responsible for policies regarding energy and safety in handling nuclear material is hiring a Deputy Ombudsman. The position serves as the "full alter ego to the Director, Office of Ombudsman" and provides dispute resolution services to DOE employees, supervisors, and management personnel regarding work-related concerns.

The position is located in Washington, DC and is open only to U.S. citizens (who must also pass a security clearance). The GS-15 position pays $123,758-$155,500/year and applications are due March 29, 2012. (DOE Jobs, Job Ann. No.: HQ-12-MP-07-ED-00026; DOE Ombudsman.)

Organizational Ombuds

Organizational Ombuds serve as a confidential, independent, neutral and informal dispute resolution resource for a specific entity. They are accessible to a defined population and can advocate for fairness. These unique characteristics distinguish Organizational Ombuds from Classical Ombuds, mediators, arbitrators, and other alternative dispute resolution professionals. The term "Ombuds" is shorthand for "Ombudsman," "Ombudsperson" and "Ombuds Officer," which also are used widely.
