The California Caucus of College and University Ombuds is seeking speaker proposals for its annual in-person meeting 2022. The signature caucus is set for November 6 through 9 at the Asilomar Conference Grounds. (Of course all plans are contingent on the course of the Covid pandemic.) Proposals are due by May 1, 2022.

1. DateThe 2022 California Caucus of College and University Ombuds will be held at the Asilomar Conference Grounds on November 6-9, 2022.
2. ThemeThe Program Selection Committee is soliciting session proposals inspired by the theme, “Lessons from Tidal Pools.”A defining characteristic of Asilomar is its tidal pools. They are subject to constant change yet thrive. What can ombuds learn from these diverse and lively communities? Recent challenges have required ombuds to be adaptive and creative in our response. As ombuds, how do we build strong, diverse, and resilient work environments? How do we strengthen our individual ombuds role and create a thriving ombuds community?
3. Selection Criteria
A. General Criteria:The Program Selection Committee strives to develop a rich and diverse program with a lively mix of programs that are coherent with this year’s theme. The goal is to create a program that achieves a natural and productive pace with a seamless and comfortable content arc and program flow. The committee seeks programs that will complement and build on one another with a rich variety of topics, mixed duration, and varied presentation approaches and styles. The committee is particularly interested in original proposals that creatively utilize Asilomar’s intimate in-person setting and foster deep conversations, community connection, and participant engagement.B. Specific Selection CriteriaThe Program Selection Committee evaluates proposals based on general and specific criteria and welcomes program sessions of various durations that:
Feature novel topics; Utilize creative presentation styles or approaches; Encourage participant engagement and interaction; Align with the program’s theme; Include Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Belonging; Provide education, skill-building, and practical take-aways; Share different and innovative approaches to ombuds practice; Demonstrate knowledge and expertise with the topic.4.
