Laura Smythe has been announced as the next University of Idaho Ombuds, effective October 2. She will report to the U of I President and serve faculty, staff member, administrators, students, and groups. She succeeds Barbara Beatty, who moved to become the Ombuds at Metro State University in Denver. Smythe taught a half-day course on managing conflict during a time of grief before the 2018 IOA conference.
Smythe comes to Idaho from Wisconsin, where she served as a consultant and the founder of Communication Connections and contracts with the Wisconsin Department of Health Services to train workers in mediation and communication skills. She also served as director of pro bono programming for the University of Wisconsin School of Law. Smythe graduated from the College of Wooster, earned two masters degrees from the University of Wisconsin-Madison, and a JD from the University of Wisconsin School of Law. (UIdaho News.)
