ACR Webinar: How Ombuds Foster Ethical Organizations

Liz Hill will present a webinar for the Association for Conflict Resolution on March 13, 2019. Hill is the Associate Director of the CU Boulder Ombuds Office and Co-chair of the ABA Dispute Resolution Section’s Ombuds Committee. Her topic will focus on how Ombuds help organizations improve their culture.

Here's the full description:
Interested in an ethical culture? Build an ombuds program. Ombuds serve as an impartial third party to help facilitate informal and confidential communications up and down the chain of command. Independent from leadership, legal, compliance, human resources, and other reporting functions, ombuds serve to promote fairness, equity and accountability and have no vested interest in the outcome of issues of which they are made aware. For some constituents, an ombuds can serve a needed purpose, listening, coaching, offering perspective, providing necessary details about formal processes and reporting options, clarifying policies, identifying informal options and contemplating strategies for raising concerns and moving toward resolution. This reinforces desired behaviors and encourages good citizenship. When organizations provide an effective issue management system, people feel like their organization cares about their well-being and in return tend to be more ethical, loyal, productive and trusting.
