Emory Names First University Ombuds

Lynell Cadray has been appointed the inaugural Emory University Ombudsperson and Senior Adviser to the President. Although the university previously had a Student Ombudsperson, Cadray will join the presidential leadership team as an Ombuds for faculty, staff, administrators, and students ("when appropriate").  Dona Yarbrough continues as Emory's part-time Campus Life Ombudsperson.

Interest in creating a dedicated office for conflict resolution has been supported in recent years by both Emory’s Faculty Council and University Senate; it was also endorsed by the Committee on Class and Labor following the university’s first Class and Labor Report. Cadray steps into the new role after serving Emory’s Office of Equity and Inclusion for the past five years as both vice provost and associate vice provost. Her has held a variety of positions in higher ed administration and has worked at Emory since 2010. She graduated from Tulane University and earned her MA in Women's Studies at Georgia State University. (Emory News; LinkedIn.)
