Pikes Peak Community College Names First Ombuds

Last spring, Kemisha James was selected as the first Ombuds for the community college in Colorado Springs, Colorado. In the bifurcated role (Executive Assistant to the President/Ombuds), James provides Ombuds services to over 18,000 students.

James has worked in a variety of student affairs positions over the past decade and is new to Pikes Peak CC. She graduated from San Jose State University and earned a Master of Public Administration at California State University-East Bay. (LinkedIn.)

Organizational Ombuds

Organizational Ombuds serve as a confidential, independent, neutral and informal dispute resolution resource for a specific entity. They are accessible to a defined population and can advocate for fairness. These unique characteristics distinguish Organizational Ombuds from Classical Ombuds, mediators, arbitrators, and other alternative dispute resolution professionals. The term "Ombuds" is shorthand for "Ombudsman," "Ombudsperson" and "Ombuds Officer," which also are used widely.
