- Protect and uphold the independence of the Ombuds Office.
- Select the Global Ombuds, provide input on their onboarding and training plan, support with advice as needed or requested, and oversee performance.
- Approve the Ombuds Office annual plan, evaluate progress, and provide ongoing feedback.
- Annually evaluate the Global Ombuds against the Ombuds Office operational plan as well as key objectives and outcomes as detailed in the Ombuds MEAL Plan.
- Review and approve the Ombuds' Office annual budget allocations and financial statements.
- Review, given input on, and approve the Ombuds Office annual report and any special reports.
- Respond to any concerns related to the Ombuds Office with support from the Global Ombuds and SOS CVI Communications.
For the Ombuds board member, SOS Children's Villages is seeking:
An ombuds professional with at least eight years’ experience, including internationally. Experience as an ombudsperson for children is an asset, as is experience with different ombuds approaches (i.e., organizational, government, advocacy), and third-party approaches designed to give voice to the voiceless/speak truth to power are welcome, as different cultures may have different words and labels for the same approach.
