The University of Kansas Ombuds Office has opened a search for an Associate Ombuds. The new, full-time, hybrid position will be an expansion of the KU Ombuds Office, which serves the students, staff, and faculty. This is an opportunity to join an historic, growing, and stable program. The University Ombuds, Ada Emmett, indicates that they are looking for a candidate that has demonstrated experience in developing and delivering training sessions and who can co-facilitate group processes for people in conflict, in addition to meeting with visitors. KU’s Ombuds Office practices to IOA standards and reports to the University Executive Vice Chancellor/Provost.

Applicants must have a Bachelor’s degree and two years of work experience as an Organizational Ombuds or comparable/related experience. Preferred qualifications include a relevant Master’s degree; demonstrated experience and/or education in diversity, inclusion, cultural competency and intersectionality; and university experience. The salary range starts at $80,000 and applications will reviewed starting April 10, 2023. (KU Employment.)

Organizational Ombuds

Organizational Ombuds serve as a confidential, independent, neutral and informal dispute resolution resource for a specific entity. They are accessible to a defined population and can advocate for fairness. These unique characteristics distinguish Organizational Ombuds from Classical Ombuds, mediators, arbitrators, and other alternative dispute resolution professionals. The term "Ombuds" is shorthand for "Ombudsman," "Ombudsperson" and "Ombuds Officer," which also are used widely.
