European Ombuds Offer Webinar on Creating an Office

The European Ombuds and Mediator Group will offer a free webinar on "European Ombuds and Mediator Group," on August 29, 2024, at 2:00pm-3:30pm CEST. The speakers will be Dolores Gómez-Morán, Senior Mediator, Office of the Ombudsman & Mediation Services for the World Food Programme in Rome, and Erik Larsen, Maersk Ombuds Function in Copenhagen, Denmark.

The European Mediator and Ombuds Group is the IOA Regional Advancement Community, which provided opportunities to connect, build community among Ombuds professionals, and convene for networking and educational events in the region. Jutta Reitmeier, Ombuds for Mars, and Diana Vermeul, HarmoniKon, are the RAC Europe Co-Chairs. (IOA Webinar Info.)

Organizational Ombuds

Organizational Ombuds serve as a confidential, independent, neutral and informal dispute resolution resource for a specific entity. They are accessible to a defined population and can advocate for fairness. These unique characteristics distinguish Organizational Ombuds from Classical Ombuds, mediators, arbitrators, and other alternative dispute resolution professionals. The term "Ombuds" is shorthand for "Ombudsman," "Ombudsperson" and "Ombuds Officer," which also are used widely.
