On Friday, September 16, Dr. Thomas C. Bailey will receive WMU's 2011 Distinguished Service Award. Bailey is a professor of English and environmental studies, and had been WMU ombuds from 1994 to 1999 and then again in 2007 through 2008. Bailey was also president of the University and College Ombudsman Association in 1999.
A colleague who nominated Baily for the award said, "If there is a single characteristic of Tom that I respect it is that he is one of the best listeners I have ever known. He comes to this instinctively. Have a conversation with him and you know that you are understood and you know that he will, if possible, act on that understanding." (WMU News.)
