University of Pennsylvania Names English Professor as Ombuds

UPenn President President Amy Gutmann has appointed Thadious M. Davis, PhD, a Professor of English, as the University Ombudsman, effective on September 1, 2011. , President Gutmann announced recently. Gutmann said, “Dr. Davis’ excellent judgment and exemplary record as a University citizen and mentor will be employed to very good effect on behalf of the Penn community. I am delighted that she has agreed to take on this important role.”

Davis joined Penn’s faculty in 2004 and previously held tenured faculty positions at the University of North Carolina Chapel Hill, Brown University, and Vanderbilt University. She is the author of five books and is currently writing a monograph on African-American writers and the American South. She earned her PhD from Boston University. Davis will succeed Joan Goodman who has served as University Ombudsman since 2009. (UPenn Almanac; Faculty Bio.)
